Title:
Link to Bugzilla from dw_suggestions

Area:
dw_suggestions

Summary:
Include a link to the Dreamwidth Bugzilla implementation somwhere on the [site community profile] dw_suggestions; profile or layout.

Description:
Whenever I post a suggestion, after I search this community, I check the Dreamwidth public Bugzilla instance to make sure it isn't already on the list. But right now, I have to go find the bugzilla page every time! It would be nice if [site community profile] dw_suggestions linked to bugzilla for me instead.

Maybe this is not here because people who don't know what they're doing shouldn't mess around in Bugzilla, or because people might be intimidated by it? But it seems like getting people more comfortable with that sort of thing is part of DW's dev culture, and a simple link shouldn't scare anybody. And more people checking bugzilla for redundancy before they post a suggestion would surely be a good thing!

Blogging photos from Flickr.com

Area:
external/client posting

Summary:
Flickr has no support for posting photos to Dreamwidth, even though they do post successfully to Livejournal. Can we encourage them to add Dreamwidth support?

Description:
Flickr has a feature that allows a user to post a photo from a Flickr photostream to blogs on Blogger, Livejournal, etc. Since they work well with LJ, it seems they ought to be able to work with Dreamwidth, but so far no luck. A query sent to their help staff just gets the response that they "do not support Dreamwidth." Can you perhaps encourage them to do so? Surely it wouldn't be that difficult for them.

Title:
Post diffs of style changes right before a code push

Area:
styles, communications, codepushes

Summary:
The styles team is working to improve the CSS for official styles all the time. Sometimes people like the unimproved style or their customizations are based on the imperfections. We should give people more info so they can fix their customizations after code pushes.

Description:
Specifically, when a code push is going live, there should be an entry on DW-styles that explains what changes are being made to any layouts or themes. Calling it a diff is a bit of a misnomer, because I think it should include more info than that, i.e.

1) The old code
2) The new code
3) A plain English explanation of what both sets of code do, and the problem being solved by changing the code.
4) The custom CSS/changed wizard settings required to get the old behavior back on the default layout and theme.

Drawbacks: This will require more work on the part of the styles team and more warning from The Bosses that a code push is coming than is now the custom. People will still be unhappy that we're making them make a change instead of offering two versions of the code and putting them on the unchanged version.

Flickr posting

Area:
entries

Summary:
Flickr has a blog-posting feature and I've asked them to add Dreamwidth to their list of sites they support.

Description:
Flickr supports posting photos directly to select blog services (including LJ), and I've asked them to add Dreamwidth to the sites they support. It might help if Dreamwidth would also contact Flickr with the suggestion. Thanks.
