Title:
Goodreads

Area:
Profile links

Summary:
Adding Goodreads account to profile

Description:
I really love the way DW allows its users to link to so many of their other accounts from their profile without having to fiddle about using HTML to put the info in. I wonder if it would be possible to include a goodreads username or profile link space?

for the record, if anybody comes by and wants to know why this was rejected: it's because the way goodreads constructs their user profile makes it impossible to link to unless you know the user's unique number plus their currently displayed name (which can change) -- so, profile links aren't permanent, and they don't come in a fashion that allows you to easily construct a usertag out of.

Is this still the case? Goodreads now supports having a custom username that's more like the sort of thing I think we'd need here, such as https://goodreads.com/me_and. It looks like not all accounts have them, though, so I could see it causing confusion if a user doesn't know where to look for it...

Yeah, the fact that not all accounts have them means that it's still impossible to make a link that will work 100% of the time.

I am assuming this is still true in 2023, given GoodReads was purchased by Amazon in 2013.

I assume if Amazon was going to tighten up the code, they would have done so by now. My own understanding is GoodReads is pretty much "languishing" in a corner (as much as an existing product still offered and supported by a given company can languish).
