Title:
Add a CSS Class to Comment Count on View Month Page

Area:
styles

Summary:
Right now there is no CSS class for the comment count shown after each post on the View Month Page (this page and all pages like it): http://exampleusername.dreamwidth.org/2013/01/. I've had to add sort of wonky CSS to compensate for that. The CSS doesn't target anything specific so in my case it messes things up (for instance, on my DW, it results in comment count text displaying both too small and too big - yes, all at the same time - which could be my own error, but still). So my suggestion is to simply add a separate span class for the comment count on the View Month page so it can be styled independently of other elements on the page.

Title:
I want the date format "Sat 2012-12-01" (or custom date formats)

Area:
Internationalisation/time and date

Summary:
I always use ISO format dates, so definitely want my journal displayed using those. However, in the context of a blog it's also useful to know on what day of the week a posting or comment was made, so it would be nice to have day-of-week followed by ISO date.

Description:
As per the title, and for the reasons in the summary, I would specifically like the date format "Sat 2012-12-01".

However, I have no idea how many other people would like that specific format. Maybe it would be good instead to provide a mechanism for users to specify custom date and time formats?

There are already existing standards for this, such as the trusty old POSIX strftime ( http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/functions/strftime.html ), ICU format strings ( http://userguide.icu-project.org/formatparse/datetime#TOC-Date-Time-Format-Syntax ) or the Microsoft one familiar to users of Windows and/or Excel ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8kb3ddd4.aspx ).

It would be good to use one of those rather than reinventing the wheel. My vote would be for ICU, provided that library is available to the DW platform.

Title:
Change date format in site-styled entries

Area:
entries, site

Summary:
Instead of displaying the date in site-styled entires numerically, the month should be displayed as the name of the month.

Description:
Currently, all dates on site-styled entries are displayed numerically in the year-month-day order. But not everyone in the world is used to that order, so this can cause confusion for readers used to differently-ordered dates - particularly when the day is 12 or under. I'm used to dates being written with the day before the month, and I'm always having to stop and think about dates when I'm reading and remind myself that a date like 2012-07-03 is actually July and not March.

I suggest that dates instead be written with the name of the month in text, because regardless of what order you are used to for dates there's no chance for confusion.

Other solutions could include allowing users to set the order for all dates in their account settings. The benefit here is that everyone could have dates set up exactly how there are used to. But, I would imagine that this would be more difficult to implement and could increase decision fatigue.

Title:
Delete Multiple Entries At A Time

Area:
Entries

Summary:
The ability to checkbox and delete a batch of entries at once.

Description:
I know that this suggestion has been put forward and once rejected, but I would like to suggest it again, if I may, and address the two areas of concern I saw:

1) Security: i.e. Someone hacks and mass-deletes the entries in your journal.

My suggestion would be that when, say 5 or more entries are checked for deletion, clicking Delete will generate an email to the owner of that account, who will then have to go into their email and click a link from there to verify deletion--as with verifying an email account when initially setting up a DW account.

2) Cost: i.e. Implementing mass-anything is very expensive, therefore a mass-deletion tool would have to be a paid feature.

That is a choice I think a lot of us would gladly be faced with. :)

MY ARGUMENT FOR: The reality of the need for a mass-deletion tool is pressing. With so many blogs and journaling sites now across the web (even as compared to two years ago when this feature was originally suggested) and with mass importation becoming indispensable, and thankfully being made easier, the only hiccup is ending up with hundreds of entries you don't need/want/imported by accident, but with which you're stuck if on DW.

A workaround is to set all unwanted entries to Private, but hundreds of unwanted entries can get in the way when you later have to work journal-wide.

Thanks.

Option to make archive and calendar week start on a Monday

Area:
Archive and sidebar calendar

Summary:
There should be an option that lets you set Monday as the first day of the week in the archive year view and in the calendar module.

Description:
As a European I'm always thrown to see the week start on a Sunday in the archive year view and in the calendar module. I think that, just as we have the option to set time to display as 24 hours instead of AM and PM, we should have the option to set Monday as the first day of the week. It's a small thing but I think it would be a nice way of showing that DW isn't only for people from the US.

Title:
Add link to first entry

Area:
Journal navigation, entries

Summary:
Add a link to the main journal page and the individual entry pages to the journal's first entry.

Description:
Sometimes, it'd be nice to be able to open a journal and go directly to the beginning. See where it all started. Read from the beginning, in order. Great for a fiction journal or a project journal, but sometimes you want to do that with a personal journal, too.

So add a link to "First Entry" next to the "Previous 20" link on the main journal page and the "Previous Entry" link on the individual entry page.

Drawbacks:

1. Not sure how hard it would be to automate finding and marking a journal's first/earliest entry, especially since this might change with backdating.

2. First entry might be locked. You'd still want to link to it for those who have access, but you'd have to do something for those who don't. Or maybe the "you don't have permission to view this entry" page would be good enough? Though if it came with a link to the next entry, that might be better.

3. Changing navigation might be confusing. People might accidentally hit the "First Entry" link when they meant to go to the previous one.
