Title:
Button to Bulk-Delete 0-Entry Tags
Area:
tags, entries, the little things that irk us
Summary:
Create some sort of easy interface to bulk-delete tags that have no entries assigned to them. This will make it easier for people to manage their tags.
Description:
Sometimes you accidentally create a tag with typos or something, and you fix it, but then the tag is just hanging around with zero entries, or you've created a tag but manually merged it with another one.
Originally someone mentioned that, well, what if tags with zero associated entries were just automatically deleted? but that would break site use for people (and communities) who have created tags that they intend to use for the future, but who have not used them yet.
A quick way to bulk-delete empty tags seems like the best compromise for not breaking existing use and streamlining things for people who need to clean out their empty tags.
Suggested user interface: a button to delete all tags with 0 entries, followed by a confirmation page, listing the tags that will be deleted, with checkboxes so that if someone realizes that they had indeed created a tag that they were planning to use but hadn't used it, then they can save it. (All boxes checked by default, ability to uncheck, then a button to delete.) Possibly an are-you-sure, there-is-no-going-back warning dialog after that.
