Title:
Maintaining entries imported into Dreamwidth
Area:
importing, crossposting
Summary:
If you find that you need to edit an entry that you've imported from another service and you want to maintain both old and new journals, presently you'll need to edit the entry twice: once on Dreamwidth, once at the old service. Wouldn't it be great if the two entries were connected like crossposted entries?
Description:
I, like many, still maintain a heavy presence over at livejournal. I want to import older entries here, but I'm in the process of revamping older entries and don't want to have to do so more than once. Changing an imported entry on Dreamwidth does not change the entry on the original service. Re-importing entries (so far as I am aware) only adds new comments and entries, but does not notice edits. This can make editing imported entries very tedious.
If possible, I propose that imported entries somehow be treated like crossposted entries, provided that the journal imported from is on a user's crossposting list. I'm not a coder, so I can't say what is possible and what is not or how problematic this could be. It would make life a lot easier, however.
