Title:
(opt-in) time out of tracking on selected posts
Area:
tracking
Summary:
I'd love an opt-in for tracking of posts where the post would stop being tracked automatically after a set period of time.
Description:
So, I've just spent several hours in the last few days sorting through my old posts on LJ to remove things from my inbox. Some of that is fun, because I'm bookmarking old posts into Delicious, etc. but a lot of it is not stuff that needs revisiting.
I track some posts that I want to track for long periods of time (there continue to be interesting comments on them months or even years later) but most of them I just want to track briefly - 2-3 weeks, at most.
I'd love an option I could click when I set up the tracking that would allow me to have a particular post drop off my tracking list after a set period of time. (Set by the site would probably be easiest, and I'm thinking like 2 months, not a matter of days). For posts where I do want long-term tracking, I wouldn't click that option, naturally.
I realise there's a lot of back-end burden here, but perhaps batch processing them once a week when there's relatively low load on the processors might work? Or even allowing people to set their own time for processing (on the theory that'd stagger it out across different times) might work. (I'm also guessing it'd need to be a paid account benefit.)
