Pinboard is an increasingly-popular social bookmarking site. Adding Pinboard to the "connect"/"other services" section of one's DW profile would allow one to see others' Pinboard profiles, or share their own, as easily as we now share Twitter, Tumblr, and Delicious profiles.

I get a "not found" when I click on the profile link. Maybe you can only look at your own profile?

The way I interpret "Only registered users can view this page" means you need to be logged in to view a profile, but you're not limited to your own. But I'm not a pinboard user so I could be wrong.

I think you can only look at your own profile - at least that's the only one I can get to when I'm logged in. So we'd have to use the "main" link, I guess.

Belatedly, there is a public profile now, optional, but of the form: http://pinboard.in/u:azurelunatic/profile/public/

My "with changes": It doesn't look like you can actually view a profile not your own. I don't know if there's a plan to make profiles public or if I just did something wrong somewhere, but if profiles aren't actually public, there's no sense in linking the profile.

While poking around the settings on Pinboard today, I noticed a checkbox to "enable public profile." So it looks like there is no default public profile for every user, but some profiles will be public. I don't think checking that box does anything just yet though, or maybe you need to be logged in to see profiles. I tested my own account while logged out and couldn't see a profile.

Just FYI, Pinboard profiles can now be private, public to other Pinboard logged-in users or public to the internet at large.

Can I amend to add the line "and add a pinboard alias: <user name=namestring site=pinboard.in>." (Should go to /u:namestring, goes to /users/namestring/)
