Correct embedded content from syndicated LJ feeds

Title:
Correct embedded content from syndicated LJ feeds

Area:
RSS

Summary:
Videos seem not to show up correctly in posts that are part of syndicated feeds from LJ.

Description:
When a community on LJ is syndicated here through RSS, any YouTube (and I assume other) videos posted on LJ are not visible on DW (At least to me). For instance:
http://vintage-ads-feed.dreamwidth.org/1360519.html
shows me a blank space (which seems to be the right size) instead of the video in Firefox and Chrome. But when I follow the link back to LJ, the video is shows up just fine in the same browser. And videos in other RSS feeds also show up correctly.

Does this have anything to do with embedding being disabled for some external sites? I can't remember whether YouTube was one or not, but I think I remember something about that.

*searches*

Yeah--from the 1/25/11 news update:

YouTube embeds

YouTube has changed the way it provides the code for embedding a video in another page, and the new code as given doesn't work on DW -- this is because the method their new code uses is blocked on DW for security reasons. (We're working on ways to make it work again just for YouTube, since we're pretty sure they're not evil. Well, no more than anybody is.)

Until we can fix it up, you'll need to slightly change the way you get the code from YouTube. after clicking the embed link three checkboxes will appear below the embed code. Click the one that says "use old embed". That should generate the right code for embedding.

Yeah, I'd be inclined to think it's this, rather than something that needs fixing/enhancing in RSS feeds from LJ specifically.

LiveJournal has made changes that permit the use of the problematic type of embed code (iframes) from YouTube, so it's entirely possible that the affected entries contain code that works on LJ but is cleaned out of the imported entries when they arrive on DW.
