Etsy: user name link and profile external service
Title:
Etsy: user name link and profile external service
Area:
cross-site excellence
Summary:
Given that Dreamwidth has a lot of crafters, there might be interest in a specific Etsy shop remote user name before someone gets around to the easily-add-services feature.
Description:
As we know, remote site user name linking works for any site where users can be found at www.[service.tld]/users/[name], even if it isn't set up so there's a site-specific user-head to link there. [Edit: the proper location is 'users', not 'user'. My bad.]
Etsy's user URLs take the form of www.etsy.com/shop/[name], and their profile URLs www.etsy.com/people/[name].
Are there enough Etsy crafters, and people who know Etsy crafters, that it would be useful to be able to easily link to Etsy crafters before someone gets to bug 23 (http://bugs.dwscoalition.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23) ?

AS WE KNOW?? I went looking all OVER the FAQs for official statements on what format a userprofile link could be in! (I wanted to suggest deviantart as a supported profile thinger but couldn't figure out if its profile formatting was valid.) Couldn't locate it anywhere. Does the www.[service.tld]/user/[name] require "user" or can it also be "users"? Or is that sort of niggling difference going to be handled by the linked future bugfix?

The existing username linking is indeed crying out for more documentation.

Want to write a new FAQ for me? I promise to get started on coordinating things very very soon.

This link format will work with some other sites that are not LiveJournal-based. Adding "site=sitename" in the tag will create a link to sitename/users/username and sitename/users/username/profile. If Dreamwidth does not already have an icon for the site, the generic remote site icon will be used.
