Prevent OpenID relationships from cluttering profile pages

Title:
Prevent OpenID relationships from cluttering profile pages

Area:
profile page

Summary:
On profile pages, relationships with DreamWidth accounts should stand out from those with OpenID accounts.

Description:
OpenID accounts that are given access tend to drown out actual DreamWidth accounts on the profile pages of people who used the import tool.

I suggest displaying DreamWidth accounts first, then OpenID accounts grouped by site, using the compact style — <user site="www.site.com" name="username" /> — for known sites.

Just to point out, [livejournal.com profile] rahaeli and [identity profile] rahaeli.livejournal.com are two separate things -- one leads to the account on the remote site alone, the other is the local "openID account" created for the user. You can, for instance, add an OpenID account to your access list by using the latter construct, but not the former.

So, your suggestion to use the compact style would be removing functionality, essentially.

Besides, we don't use that style of linking for Dreamwidth accounts, either.

Yeah, I like that idea, especially if we add in the OpenID account head thingum in front of it to make it double clear.

The way you point that out, it seems obvious that we ought to integrate the two somehow.

I know that the software treats them as two different things, but it seems like we ought to somehow make it completely transparent to users. They'd just invite / refer to / read posts from their friends, who happen to be on different sites.

(Although the fact that only Dreamwidth users can post to comms does complicate things some. I guess people will have to find third-party meeting grounds like forums to discuss things together, if they don't have enough invite codes or their friends don't want to use Dreamwidth. Or don't want to add yet another online identity to their collections.)

I like the idea of separating out native DW accounts from OpenID accounts, but not the idea of changing the links to link off-site (I'd like to keep them linking to DW OpenID userinfo pages).

Agreed. I don't have a preference on where the OpenID links to really, but I do want them separated out from the DW accounts. I have a lot of random OpenIDs of people that commented only once or twice in several years of my LJ thanks to the importer and they make for a lot of clutter.

I'd also like OpenIDs separated out in the circle management page as well so that the DW accounts are listed first and then the OpenIDs. I use reading colors and having to scroll up and down to see what I've already used when all the OpenIDs are mixed in is very annoying.

I agree on not having a strong preference on the format of the OpenID account's link, but wanting them separated from DW accounts on the profile page.

I don't care if they're separated or not, but if they are separated I'd like to see it done this way (maybe via the example in the thread above, maybe another display).

I would love this. While I do want the openid accounts listed somewhere, having them mixed in with the DW-native accounts means it's very hard for me to find things, so having them listed separately would be a great boon.
