importing - option to import only recent entries

Title:
importing - option to import only recent entries

Area:
entries, tags

Summary:
I think it would be more helpful to have an option import only recent entries/tags/etc than ALL of them.

Description:
I just think it more logically to give users the option to import data fully or recently. I've imported fully once and I'd rather just import just more recent stuff. I know personally I have a different friends only post at lj than here and I have to delete it every time I import and it would be so much nicer to just import new stuff.

Seems pretty reasonable to me to offer a choice during import of "full import" or "import everything after this date".

Not so sure how many people would use it, though? Personally, I like having all my content in one place, so I like having full imports. But I can see others who use it for less archiving and more communication finding this useful.

I think it would be even more useful if you could import everything between specified dates; that would cover this, because you could set the end date to today, and also allow people to import their journal in instalments, in case they want a different privacy setting for the weeks when a certain kerfuffle was going on, or if an import mostly worked and they just wanted to repeat the part where there was a problem.

"With changes" - this is how I'd prefer to see it done.

I would especially lke to see the feature implemented this way. I only just now got around to importing my entries from my Livejournal, and due to the fact I could only import ALL of the entries I'm pretty sure the importer nabbed crossposts I have been making since the beginning of the year. Eventually I'll have to go back and delete those duplicates.

Hey what a surprise! I just checked a few of my past entries and found that Dreamwidth automatically *merged* those duplicate entries. I'm kinda surprised the devs even thought of this and am quite pleased. ;)

It didn't used to. I'm pleased to know it will now! I knew it was on the list to change, I missed when it changed.
