Exiting Tags Frustrating
Title:
Exiting Tags Frustrating
Area:
Tags
Summary:
At the end of a tag edit, return user to the queue of posts; at the end of the just edited post, instead of in a window by itself.
Description:
Currently when I finish editing a tag I'm shown the edited message in it's own window.
I have many posts to edit. The end of each one requires clicking back onto my journal and scrolling back to wherever I was working. If the final keystroke of the tag edit process returned me to my journal, at the end of the just modified post, that would be ideal and saving time and keystrokes.

Should be implemented as-is.

a) opening the 'edit tag' link in a new window/tab.
b) what will one do be this new feature: http://bugs.dwscoalition.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1576 - Easily add a tag to multiple entries in one go
I am rather okay with waiting for that feature or just opening a new window.

I'm trying to visualize how the "tag multiple entries" feature would help, since I'm almost undoubtedly going to continue editing single posts, and wanting to end up in the queue of posts.

However, my own editing style wants me to return to the entry itself (I never edit from the Queue page), so it's really hard to say where that 'landing page' should go.

But I do like the suggestion above to return you to where you came from. That way if I add a tag while reading a post on my friends page, I would go back to my friends page to pick up. If I was adding tags in the day view for posts a couple years old, I'd go back to the day I was on, etc.
What I usually do when I'm doing a tagging run and back-to-the-entry isn't the behavior I want is open the tag-setting in a new tab, set the tags, and close that tab, though. I'd probably still do that because there's less chance of an error or driving the server nuts finding the entry (if, say, I was tagging the next-to-last post on my friends entries page and four new entries have been posted since).

I suppose DW could remember what page you came to http://www.dreamwidth.org/edittags... from, but that might break something.
