"Tick n boxes" poll question option

Title:
"Tick n boxes" poll question option

Area:
polls

Summary:
Have poll option to force "tick your top three" and similar.

Description:
Let poll creators make questions that allow a creator-defined number of options to be selected, instead of the current limit-to-one-or-don’t-limit-at-all options. This would ideally include the ability to require a maximum number of answers, a minimum number of answers, or a fixed number of answers (e.g., no more than three, at least three, exactly three).

I wouldn't mind "at most, three" (or two or seven or whatever) instead of the current "at most, one" or "at most, all of them", but I'm not sure about requiring a certain number to be selected.

I think three was suggested as a hypothetical limit:

"Let poll creators make questions that allow a creator-defined number of options to be selected"

I was using "three" hypothetically, too - I'm good with "you may select at most [the creator-defined number] options", but I'm not sure about "you must select at least [the creator-defined number] options", or "you must select exactly [the creator-defined number] options". From the suggestion: This would ideally include the ability to require a maximum number of answers, a minimum number of answers, or a fixed number of answers (e.g., no more than three, at least three, exactly three).

I don't think HTML provides for a method of doing this, and so we would have to introduce Javascript or some other scripting language into polls to make this work. Bad idea. :(

Hmm, we could do it with an error message on form submission, maybe? "Question #9 requires at least x / exactly x / at most x answers. Your responses have not been changed. Please correct your etc and try again".

As long as we captured the already entered answers and sent them back to the poll with that pre-filled in, that would be very good!

The "Question #9 requires at least four answers" thing would annoy me, and so I probably just wouldn't fill out polls that required minimum or exact numbers of answers, but this is a decent way to go about implementing the idea.

This is the only reason I'm against this idea.

If this was done strictly, it would break the functionality of letting users skip questions (which they can do now simply by not selecting a choice - which works even with radio button questions). Maybe make it work so that it only counts them only if there were choices made in the first place?
