Suggestions generator

Got a suggestion to make Dreamwidth a better place? We've finally got a better thing to do with it than just leaving it as a comment to a dw_suggestions post.

You can now Make a Suggestion. When you fill out that form, it will post an entry into this community's moderation queue. When it's posted, it'll include a simple poll so you can register your opinion quickly, and you'll be able to talk it over in the comments to the post.

Having a suggestion get positive responses doesn't guarantee that it'll be implemented, but we've made it easy to migrate your suggestions into our bugtracking database, and if your suggestion gets chosen for migration, it will eventually get added. I'll be putting through a test suggestion in a few minutes so you can all see what suggestions will look like!

Does that mean you want someone to go through the existing comments and pull them together into proper suggestions?

Oh God that'd flood the comm. *g* Someone's going through to pull them all into a list, which will be evaluated and appropriately shuffled.

Problem with suggestions generator

I tried to put in a request for an Ancestor link on comments, To have a link that says Ancestor next to the Parent link, which goes to the top of the thread this comment is in, but I got an error: Client error: Access of restricted feature: Your account type doesn't permit creating polls. Is this a stray security check, or is the form only available for members of the community? (I'm following it by tracking instead of subscribing, because of the massive number of comments on the original post.)

Sigh. It shouldn't do that, because the community is paid. I'll look into that a bit more.

What if our suggestion is minor and so we feel embarrassed to imply that it is worthy of its own suggestions post?

Does it make the site better in some way? If so, post it.

Look at some of the stuff D's excited about in this week's code tour, some of it's incredibly minor, but worth doing.

I, OTOH, need to get my act together to put up all the fairly major suggestions I've got in my head.

Now that I've seen it in action (& thanks for reposting my suggestion!), could we have cut-tags on the posts? I'd like to subscribe to the community instead of tracking it now there are separate entries, but some of them are quite long.

Or maybe this comm could use the extra CSS classes created for the herald: http://the-dw-herald.dreamwidth.org/6241.html

Hmm ... cut tags for feeds ... (I've accumulated quite a lot of things I want to vote for, but most of them are "me too"s for comments on the original suggestions post.)

I don't want to cut, just because that makes it harder for me to administer things, but I will happily add some CSS classes around the full entries, long description + polls, and just the polls with the next update. :)

Thank you! If I can suppress the long description + poll with CSS, that'll be excellent.

Have I said recently how impressed I am that free users get such prompt feedback? I get the impression that's not usual :)

Could the polls be named? Probably by grabbing the title field and pasting it in as the name of the poll.

If I open several instances of just the poll in new tabs (so that my reading list isn't replaced with the entry containing the poll), and then go to look at them later, I have no indication of which suggestion I'm voting on.
