Show deletion reason in contextual hover menu

Title:
Show deletion reason in contextual hover menu

Area:
accounts, deleted accounts, contextual hover menu, little ui quirks

Summary:
(When someone has the contextual hover menu turned on) For deleted users, show contextual hover menu with deletion reason and option to subscribe to notification when account is purged.

Description:
When there's a deleted user, people who have turned on the contextual hover menu (that thing that flaps open when you hover over the userpic/userhead) currently see a notice that the user is deleted.

To make user experience a little more consistent, and to make stuff more useful, that notice could be modified to include useful information about a deleted account.

It should show the deletion reason if one has been given.

It should have the option to subscribe to when the account is purged.

Any other interactions that people can do with deleted accounts that should go in there?

Hm. I'm not sure about this in a privacy sense. I think people normally would think of that information as viewable by appropriate site staff only. If this were implemented, it would need to be made clear when a deletion reason is provided that what you enter will be viewable by anyone.

Subscribe to notify on purge sounds useful though.

Deletion reason is public, though, right?

I thought it wasn't. I've been informed.

For context, the thing OP means is the "display a reason for why you're deleting your account" option that's clearly marked as "this will display publicly" -- it shows on the front page of the journal and on the profile page of a deleted account.

OK. I've never deleted a DW account and my memory of the corresponding thing on LJ is hazy. In that case, I guess why not.

I don't think the reason for deletion should be on the hover, especially if it's a long wordy reason, but I think that the subscription (eg notify me if it's purged) should be there.

I wonder if we can show the first few words with an ellipsis and a link to read more?

As for the subscription, I think there should be a notification available *if the account comes back* within the 30 days, too. It seems more likely that I'd hover over a friend's deleted account and want to do that, than that I'd randomly happen across a deleted account I'd want to jump on when it becomes available.

This leads me, however, to thinking about account deletion notifications and whether they should be first-class subscribable events wrt notifications. It seems like you could be notified for:

* someone I'm subscribed to/grant access to has deleted their account
* someone I'm subscribed to/grant access to has un-deleted their account
* an account I've flagged to watch (in case it becomes available) has been deleted, undeleted, or purged

The last one should be available even for not-yet-deleted accounts. I'm thinking of eg. the situation on LJ right now, where "skud" is taken by someone who doesn't use it. I'd like to flag it for "if this ever becomes available, let me know".

I'm probably hopelessly complicating things but that's just what occurs to me.

Yeah, truncation, although sometimes that cuts in the wrong place XD

Hm, well, I'm not sure about the 'notif for if this ever gets purged' should be added; the users I interact with on a daily basis - I nearly never ever think "oh I'd like their account name". I think that's unnecessary, there.

also I'm not sure you know, but you can set a notif for if skud on LJ gets purged: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/subscriptions/user.bml?journal=skud

will both of these things -- deletion reason and ability to subscribe -- be very easily accessible to people who don't have access to the contextual hover menus? Which is to say, most screenreader users, all keyboard only users, mobile users, and iPad users?

Deletion reason displays on the profile and journal pages of a deleted account, subscribe to notification of purging displays on the profile. So, yeah, it already does.
