Add a Delicious user tag

Title:
Add a Delicious user tag

Area:
site-specific user tags

Summary:
Add a user tag for delicious.com.

Description:
I would love if it was possible to link to people's Delicious accounts in the same way you can link to their LJs or Twitters, i.e. by using user name=turloughishere site=delicious.com to link to http://www.delicious.com/turloughishere

I don't know how popular Delicious is outside of fandom but in many fanfic fandoms it's invaluable and linking to Delicious accounts is something you do very often.

Y'know, it really should have occured to me that we didn't have that and should, given it's in the profile options and many of us use it constantly (and I rewrote the Glue script so it works on DW), daft we overlooked it.

So, yes please, Delicious usertagging.

Is there a profile page for delicious? I'm slow.

I'd rather wait until the transition to AVOS is completed, just in case. In the meantime, why not Diigo user tag function/s?

+1 to the first part, though mongoose to the second.

(For people who don't know, Delicious users were supposed to opt into the transfer for whatever future plans AVOS* has up their sleeves before July, as they were planning on doing the migration in July sometime. It's August, and as far as I can tell, the migration hasn't happened yet? But I'm not sure the website'll still be called "Delicious" when all is said and done.)

* I cannot for the life of me stop typoing AVOS as AVOX. I blame Suzanne Collins.

AVOS - much more mouthy.

I'd dig a Diigo linky-thing, though these days I'm more on the, what's it, Trunk.ly?

I think the actual transition has happened, but they've not done anything new yet. I doubt they'd change the name, doing so would hurt a lot of presence, and they specifically bought Delicious, not just a bit of software.

Given that it's a minor tweak in the codebase to implement the suggestion (one line of code I believe), I don't think waiting until something happens their end that may never actually happen is worth it myself.

I think it's good

Not perfect, but good, and you can easily start groups, which I have yet to do.

I have a Del account, but I stopped using the week I heard about Yahoo deciding to ditch it, and switched to Diigo. I only use my Diigo account now because I want to avoid any possible troubles that might go along with the transition, but I'm still open minded about what kind of service AVOS will provide in the future, but to be honest, I only want to have to deal with one reliable bookmarking service at a time instead of going back and forth.

diigo sucks for me because it limits the number of tags you can have to five thousand I think, and also it has no tag bundling which is a major disadvantage if you have several thousands of tags. So I could not import there, because I use more tags than that, and would loose information. Also it lacks browsing convenience delicious has, imo.

Yeah, it's really not a good alternative. I mean, it has some other stuff that delicious has not, and I'm sure it's the right tool for some people who use their social bookmarking in some way different from me, but for me it's useless. I have over 6500 tags and many tag bundles as well, and I know I'm not the only one. A while back when there was acute worry about delicious several people on my flist as well as some newsletters and other communal fandom tagging efforts ran into the tag problems. Some then bought a pinboard account, but I'm not so thrilled with that either, not just because it's paid, but also because it intentionally lacks the social functions, and I rather like having a network on delicious. Still as alternative that one is at least workable for the basics.

Actually, thinking about it, I don't see why it couldn't be added as a thing now (from the perspective of "now" as "whenever someone gets around to adding it") and then edited if/when AVOS makes any changes. It's not like other websites don't change stuff around from time to time; there's no real guarantee that say Ravelry wouldn't move the user profile location.

In the context of Dreamwidth profile links, I see no reason why one couldn't or shouldn't have both Delicious and Diigo as options. Though for easier administrative tracking, probably a decent idea to file a separate suggestion for Diigo.

I took the liberty of submitting this as a separate suggestion, to make suggestions administration easier: http://dw-suggestions.dreamwidth.org/583885.html
