adding Ravelry to supported external sites for "magical" linking usernames

Title:
adding Ravelry to supported external sites for "magical" linking usernames

Area:
linking usernames (dreamwidth specific tag)

Summary:
What it says on the tin :D I would love it if we could add Ravelry.com to the sites supported so that I could write user name=anatsuno site=ravelry.com as a user thingie! Rav uses this structure for their user profiles: http://www.ravelry.com/people/anatsuno

Description:
I don't see what else to say... Except that I know Ravelry is mostly a memebers only site and the profile page aren't visible to non-members, yet I still think it is a worthy user tag to have... Because of the overlap in users in both sites' membership, if nothing else. :))

I voted "implement with changes", because I think there needs to be some more streamlined way to get external sites added than suggesting them here. Maybe some kind of form where users could enter the site name and URL, and then if enough different people suggest the same site, someone would add it?

There's a bug open to make it easier to add external sites, yeah. In the meantime, until that can be coded (and it's a huge massive thing to code and once coded will require lots of manual admin oversight, which is guaranteed to make me cranky and put it off) this is the best way to measure how much interest there is in a particular external site being added either to the profile or to the <user name=foo> tag, so the votes are designed to measure interest in having that particular site available.

I don't have a Ravelry account and will probably never link to one but I think it makes sense to match the user name feature with the accounts you can add to your profile and since Ravelry's already there...

I have a Ravelry username, but probably won't ever link to it, and if I do link to something from Ravelry, I'd just do a standard link to the person's profile anyway.

Don't apologize; it's my fault! (I am limited by site search being down; usually if it looks familiar I'll run it through comm search. In this case, I skimmed, and didn't find it.)

As soon as our hosting provider sticks the extra 4G of RAM into the search machine! We haven't gotten an ETA yet.

*smiles whimsically* I had thought, and still think, that despite both referencing Ravelry, they were two independent issues. I think they should be linked, though technically that's currently impractical. But I had thought that this was for adding Ravelry to the [user] tag as a site option, and that was for adding Ravelry to the profile page. Distinct, but remarkably coincident.
