Summary:
You can currently get notified of all comments made on a certain entry and track entries tagged with a specific tag. I'd like to be able to get notified of comments made on entries tagged with a specific tag in a given journal.

Edit: I forgot to specify that this would be on a journal-by-journal basis because it seems obvious to me. My apologies.

Description:
Should that be a paid-only feature?

Edit: paid users and members of paid communities can already track all comments made in a community; if this applies to communities only, it would be a more restrictive version of this existing tracking option.

I can see problems with getting all comments on an unknown future number of entries -- it seems awfully easy to overload the system if something takes off. Controversial topics and links from a popular site (the Slashdot effect) could bring in thousands of comments in a few minutes. The journaling system is architected for that kind of peak load, but imagine getting all the email notifications...

I've edited this entry to specify that this would apply to a specific journal and even possibly to communities only. Paid users and members of paid communities can already get notified of all comments made in a community so it would be a more restrictive type of notification that the one which already exists.

As Ninety says, I'm already subbed to all comments made on all Suggestions entries, and I'm not the only one. This morning my inbox is a lot more full than normal as D has done a suggestions run.

This bothers me not, I expect the occasional glut. If you subscribe to a comm, youre doing so because you want to know what's going on on that topic, etc.

The only concern I'd have with this is if the servers can handled the extra notifications, as we currently only let paid comms have subscriptions, that works for me.

I'm assuming that this will decrease the load, as it means people will only track a subsection of a comm not the whole thing. Of course, it could increase the load, as more poepl might be inclined to track just one tag instead of the whole thing. I suspect it will at worse balance off, but if you're subscribing to something then you take the advantageswith the disadvantages.

Well, one can already subscribe to all comments in a sufficiently-paid community...
