A 'Current Reading' box

Title:
A 'Current Reading' box

Area:
Posting

Summary:
As well as a 'Current Music' box on the Post an Entry page, a box for us bibliophiles who want to mention what's on the bedside table (kitchen table, occasional table, bathroom shelf, etc), without feeling we have to write a review.

Description:
Description as above. I don't know there's a crying need, I'd just like it. Cons: possible incompatibility with LiveJournal? I know it's a trivial thing, it won't change the world or the internet. I can't provide any other details, sorry.

I've voted no; I think that current reading (as well as listening, eating, &c.) should be in the post body, not metadata.

I agree. If it weren't for historical reasons, I would also vote the current music should be in the post body. The only non-legacy justification for having it as metadata is that (unlike all those other "currents") it can sometimes be auto detected if what you are listening to is on your computer. But it's not metadata about the post, not really.

What with the new entry creation form coming up, I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to have customizable metadata somehow.

I would like customisable metadata.

That would actually be pretty neat, even though it'd be another feature that third-party clients can't use.

Would rather have a customizable field or two than a specifically "current reading" one.

I love the idea of being able to say what I'm currently reading, because it would be a current that I actually use.

That being said, I'd like to make an addition. Can we have it work for URLs too? Preferably with the ability to provide a name and a URL so that it links.

90% of my reading is done online, so it would be immensely useful to actually be able to link to what I'm reading.

While I can understand some people wanting to share the book they're reading, I don't think it's necessary as metadata.

Yes; I've always seen the items in the "current" metadata as happening at the same time as composing the entry. You could easily be listening to something while you write your entry, and you will almost certainly be feeling something, but only the most determined multi-tasker would be reading a book and composing an entry simultaneously.

That's how I've seen the "current" group, too.

I agree. Something like a currently watching or reading feels like it should be a module in the sidebar or in the text of the entry as an activity rather than an influence. Even still, I wouldn't deny someone if they really wanted it. It wouldn't bother me so I'll vote for and just see what happens.

Yes, it wouldn't affect me if the suggestion were implemented as is, so I'm not opposing it. I'm trying to explore a little what the "current" feature might be for, in case there's a better way to implement the OP's idea.
