Unsubscribe from multiple notifications
Title:
Unsubscribe from multiple notifications
Area:
Manage Inbox
Summary:
Allow a user to delete multiple discussion tracking notifications at one time.
Description:
It's very easy when there's a wide ranging, very interesting conversation to subscribe to many, many entries or comment threads simultaneously. However, once the conversation dies down, deleting the subscriptions is a real pain, because it has to be done for each subscription individually.
This is sort of a pain for free users, who will run up against their subscription limit fairly quickly, as well as a pain for paid users, because once they have reached their subscription limit, they'll have hundreds of subscriptions they would like to delete, and have to act on them one by one.
I'm not sure how this should be implemented, although we might consider getting rid of the option to unsubscribe from a subscription while having it stay saved. I'm not sure I understand the point of that anyway. In any case, the biggest drawback to this proposal is implementing it in a way that makes usability sense.

However, an option to delete several subscriptions at once could still be useful.
It would help if after deleting a subscription you got scrolled back down to where you were, instead of back to the top.
Possibly just add a button at the bottom to "Delete unused subscriptions" which would delete all the ones that had been unticked?

They don't, but I hate having them there - they clutter up the page, and it gets miles long. A single "delete inactive subscriptions" button would make my week.

I've been using a Greasemonkey script (currently only works on LJ) to make it possible to delete multiple subscriptions, and for the most part I like the way it works. It adds a Delete button to the bottom of the page, and changes the behavior of the page so that clicking the trash can marks a post as to-be-deleted by putting a red border around the trash can. As-written it's not great for accessibility, but it might be a place to start from.

Having something that works natively to Dreamwidth would be so much better, though! *goes vote*

Oh, the script name changed, though, so you'd need to delete the old version.

(Speaking of Greasemonkey, have you ever thought about updating the taglister to work with Dreamwidth? I've tried doing it, but Javascript is like Greek to me.)

Seconded--sometimes it's interesting just to see which entries I once thought were interesting enough to follow.

I had a ton of things subscribed to while I was paid on LJ, and when I dropped to free, all of a sudden I had to go through and delete, delete, delete one by one... I'm still not through, and I can't use my 'subscribe' feature until I get through.
It's not likely to be a problem for my Seed account here, but my secondary RP accounts? It could definitely come in handy.
