Add option to not display userpic on entries

Title:
Add option to not display userpic on entries

Area:
Entries

Summary:
On the Customize Journal page, there are options to put your userpic on either the left or the right side of the entry. There should also be an option to not display it at all.

Description:
Right now, the only way to not display userpics on your entries is to use custom CSS, but that is cumbersome and doesn't always work the way you expect. (For example, even if you use .page-recent .entry-wrapper .userpic { display: none; } to take the icons off your recent entries page, your header is still offset by 100 pixels. Which means you have to use even more CSS to fix that. ETCETERA.) There should be a Dreamwidth-supported option to not display userpics on entries with just one simple click of a dropdown box.

To me, a userpic is an essential part of the content, part of the appeal of DW/LJ based platforms and their lack is soemthing I'd miss.

However, if someone really doesn't want them, I have no objection to them being turn offable within style options.

This looks like it could quite easily be added to the same dropdown as left/right *g*

Yes, and it'd be a lot simpler than the multiple CSS hacks I had to do to both remove userpics from my layout, and get rid of the hole that they left.

I guess I'm just curious, but why wouldn't you want an icon?

+1. I only ever use the same icon on my journal, and it does get repetitive. (It was even worse when I had a "Profile" sidebar which duplicated it.)

People who have low bandwidth connections and don't like having to load tons of icons that slow everything down, but don't want to turn off images all together, because it breaks layouts.

See above about always using a default icon: If I have my default icon displaying in a module, I don't need it on every entry. And it can eat a lot of page space if it's not adding any information, and make a non-graphics-heavy bare-bones style look cluttered.

I wouldn't turn it off for reading pages, or if I often viewed other journals in style=mine, but it would be nice for my journal.

(Also, I remember the days on lj when it was impossible to get your icons to display on recent entry pages. And by "remember the days" I mean that I am still using an old S1 style on one of my journals off-DW.)

Just looked at the draft of the new compose page ....

Can you move the icon to the *top* of the entry as opposed to below -- I mean that's where it goes, after all. OTOH, all the "clicky things" are together, so I can see that appeal, too.

I'll just take a little getting used to, that's all.

Thanks.

The new update page will be customizable, so you can drag and drop things to wherever your particular workflow makes the most sense.
