Scheduled closing time for polls
Title:
Scheduled closing time for polls
Area:
polls
Summary:
Add an option for the creator of the poll to schedule a time at which the poll will automatically close to voters.
Description:
I mod a competitive writing community that runs on a schedule. We have polls for submissions, voting, and an editing checklist every week; all of these polls have to close at a specific time. This means that I have to be online at that exact time every week to close the poll. Being able to schedule a closing time would make my life infinitely easier. There may not be much widespread call for this, but it would invaluable for the niche that would be likely to use it.
I can't think of any immediate problems on the user end - if it were misscheduled, the poll creator would still be able to manually close it before the time, or reopen it after it automatically closes. The biggest sticking point for making it happen might be in the scheduling. I don't know how the date and time being displayed in local time rather than UTC is done, but I wonder if that might somehow be called in this. If the user has already selected zir time zone, the time zie enter for closing the poll could automatically be considered to be in that time zone. For those who haven't, the default would presumably be UTC, though I wonder if an option for changing the time zone would be doable.
