adding to circle ought to default to an add

[Suggestion made by OpenID user, reposted by moi.]

Summary:

"add to circle" ought to default to both "grand access" and "subscribe" checked, then let me uncheck one if i wish.

Description:

when i click add to circle, no boxes are checked by default. perhaps the most compelling argument can be made for having both checked by default (both grant access and subscribe). but at least one ought to be checked by defualt. lest why did i click "add to circule"?

That's my thought on it too - it's counterintuitive to have 'add to circle' not have anything pre-checked, sure, but if nothing's already checked, nothing can be accidentally left checked.

I like the fact that there's no box checked, too - but would it be possible to have an error message when you don't check anything? At the moment you get "Success" when you click "add to circle" without any boxes checked, when in fact you didn't do anything.

I can also go to the modify circle status page to deselect tickies though, then selecting nothing would not be an error but a success.

Maybe it should be "You didn't change anything - if that wasn't intentional, go back and try again"?

Yeah, that would make sense. No action, thus no "success".

I'm strongly against "grant access" being checked by default. But it would be good to be alerted if I didn't actually do anything!

I like this.

If it is changed to default to have a box or boxes checked, I would hope it would only be subscribe - that way there's no security issue if I miss unchecking it.

But I'd prefer that it just have a useful warning when I didn't change it - including when I save on a later modification without changing either button.

That's the actual fix needed, I think. having nothing checked by default is okay (not great, but I understand the access-paranoia), but when you THINK it worked and it didn't...

Good idea :-)
I often don't notice I didn't check the subscribe box when I use the banner to add to circle, instead of the profile box button.
