Remember the option for "Disable Auto-Formatting"

Title:
Remember the option for "Disable Auto-Formatting"

Area:
update page

Summary:
Remember the option for "Disable Auto-Formatting" on the update page.

Description:
I always post with the "Disable Auto-Formatting" option checked, except when I forget, and the spaces between the paragraphs look huge. I'd like the update page to remember the option from post to post and/or to choose to always post that way in the settings.

I prefer the "set to always use" (with the setting controllable or evident from the update page) to avoid the trip-ups that I could see ensuing with the people who use it once because they need it that once and then forget it's there again, if "keep the setting sticky" were to happen.

yes, this

Yeah, it's ugly if you have it unchecked and want it checked, but it can be pretty unreadable if you have it checked and don't want it that way.

Agreed. Cookie-settings can be difficult to change, and they're also not tied to your account.

I'd want to make sure it could be set on a per-journal basis. For example, I use autoformat in my own journal but always turn it off when posting to changelog-digest.

If this was an option people could set somewhere in the account settings, that would be nice. Remembering from post-to-post could be annoying both for people who only need to disable it for one post and for people who want to enable the option for just one post.

I really like the idea. It drives me crazy when I paste in my HTML and post it to find that I forgot to disable auto-format.

I don't know if this has been implemented or not - I suspect it has, because I wanted to disable autoformatting on one occasion and one occasion only (because I was posting a bingo card) and now it's always set to disable autoformatting and it's really, really annoying! Largely because I never spot it when I go to post until after I've posted and then realise that my entry looks like crap ::g::

It does, however, mean that I may have spotted a bug. If I post via the interface and I crosspost then discover that disable autoformatting was checked (grr!), editing the entry to uncheck disable autoformat does not copy across to the other sites to which I have posted the original entry. It still doesn't copy across even if you edit something else in the post as well. I've checked livejournal and insanejournal after correcting it (and making other edits) only to find that the edit has gone through but that the entry is still marked as 'disable autoformatting' on both sites. However, the dreamwidth entry has also been edited to uncheck this box and is now presenting properly.

Is there any design reason why this would be the case before I report it? If so, can I suggest that as a change because having to edit the posts individually across sites is only adding to the annoyance I have with the fact that autoformatting is now disabled by default on my posting page!

If it is a bug, is there somewhere I should report it? I can only find a link to this suggestion community from the main page. Is it via opening a 'Support' request? It just seems a little counterintuitive to report it that way.

That is a bug, yeah, and the place to report it is Support -- they'll verify it and open a bug in our bug tracking db. :)

Thank you! I will go and report it now :)
