Allow multiple website links on profile

Title:
Allow multiple website links on profile

Area:
profile

Summary:
Users should be able to add more than one website on their profile.

Description:
As someone with multiple websites, none of which are more important than the others, it's always bothered me that I have to choose just one to link to in my profile. Sure I can link the others in the main part of the profile, but I don't see a reason why the actual website link needs to be limited to just one site.

I use the link list for that. I think it's good that you have to pick one site for the personal information field, because otherwise it is going to end up very cluttered quite soon. AFAIK it only displays one email address as well, even though many people have many email addresses.

Lots of users have ugly, cluttered or confusing journal styles.

A solution to this might be to have style=mine respect your personal settings for how many website links there can be, just like it respects your choice of modules to display.

So if you were viewing [personal profile] torachan's journal, you would only see the top website link, because your profile module has only one website link slot.

Huh? I thought this suggestion was about the profile page itself, i.e. http://exampleuser.dreamwidth.org/profile, not the profile module. AFAIK there are no styles for that page, it looks the same for everyone.

I'm sorry for misunderstanding.

If it's on the profile page itself, I don't think extra website links are cluttery. That whole page is full of links, but it's all nicely divided into sections.

Except...

The website linked on your profile page is also linked on the profile box on your journal.

I also use the link list, and think that's, mostly, where it's best, however I can see the point that people browsing with style=mine might miss stuff, and profile sites should have rel=me on them if they don't already, you can't set this for links list items (although I think I'll suggest that as an option when I get a round tuit).

There's definitely a strong argument for sorting out the whole layout and settings for the 'profile' pages, definitely want mine to appear in my style, most of my readers come from off site.

My "with change".

I'm not sure about this. I both want it and don't want it at the same time.

Perhaps remove the 'website' from the profile box, and instead allow users to specificy any number of links list links that are yours.

Allow all links list items to have XFN data so we're supporting the social graph.

Any links list items that have rel="me" specified should also go onto the profile page in a separate box, probably close to or where the current one does.

This might be better as a separate suggestion, especially the XFN support, will ask people later.
