I hope this will make sense:

At the moment, paid users can, when they create a reading filter, choose to only include posts with certain tags (or exclude posts with certain tags). However, if you want to make a real topic-specific filter by that method, you need to go through every one of the accounts you subscribe to and select the appropiate tag/s. That takes a while.

I am proposing a new way of using a tag-based reading filters, where I can, for example, say that I want to see only posts on my reading page that are tagged "knitting". Or only posts that are tagged "dreamwidth" or "code" or "tech".

This wouldn't necessarily have to be tied in with reading filters anyway. Something like the new feature on the latest page could also work very well, I think. On the latest page, we can see posts tagged "knitting" by going to http://www.dreamwidth.org/latest?tag=knitting . For my own journal, I can use http://yvi.dreamwidth.org/tag/knitting . How about having a way of viewing http://yvi.dreamwidth.org/read?tag=knitting or http://yvi.dreamwidth.org/read/tag/knitting ? For extra shinies, this would work with boolean OR.

(For extra, extra shinies, we would have a way of seeing what tags the last... 100? 200? entries on our reading page have anyway, so as to not totally stab in the dark)

This would be really shiny.

I'd love it if it could pick the tags that contains "knitting", so that, for example "misc:knitting" would be picked up too. Of course, you'd get false positives, but I think the benefits would outweigh the inconveniences.
