Create option for easy embedding of cut text into entry

Title:
Create option for easy embedding of cut text into entry

Area:
entries, cut tags

Summary:
Create some easy, simple syntax to tell a cut tag to also display the cut text within the entry

Description:
The problem is that if you click on multiple cut tags as you read your circle, and then come back to read the posts later, you often lose vital information because the cut text is now invisible to you. Lots of people use the cut text as a kind of header for a new topic, or to warn for spoilers or other content.

Proposed solution: make it a lot easier for people to have the text of their cut tag displayed within the entry as well as on the cut tag. For example, text="cut text" would still act like it currently does, but textdisplay="cut text" would create the cut as usual with its text, but also display the cut text inside the cut (perhaps in brackets or italics). Hopefully, having this capability would encourage people to use it, without forcing a new default choice -- though speaking for myself, I'd be happy with a new default, too.

I'd like this as well. I've been trying to remember to copy and paste the cut text just below the markup. It would be great if it just automatically showed itself without me having to do that.

I already do this with most of my cuts (have the cut text, then after the cut have the cut text so it isn't lost). If something like this is implemented I'd like it to not apply to my past posts.

The way it's described here it wouldn't, since you'd have to use a new syntax to get it - which I think is ideal, because even going forward you can pick if you want it to. (I mostly wouldn't because I often put slightly different text inside the cut so that the wording flows better.)

I definitely don't want this to be the default, but I'd be happy with having an option to have it display!

I can't remember what came up in the last cut-text discussion, except for the concern about screwing up old entries/people's existing systems for a workaround. I really like this alternative.

There was a suggestion to have the text included automatically, and it was rejected because it would duplicate the text where people had done it manually, and clash with what people are used to. Having an option to do it easily at time of posting sounds like the best solution to me too.

As changes so I can specify: I really like the idea of simply adding a new attribute to the cut tag--simplify it even farther, and make textdisplay a yes/no value so people don't have to retype their cut text. Since it's an attribute people have to add, it won't wonk up old entries, but will work nicely going forward.

I like that. It also means that the cut tag won't have to be translated when cross-posting (because "textdisplay" wouldn't mean anything to LJ, so it would have to be changed to "text" there - having the two be separate, ie text="whatever" display="yes" would probably make it a bit easier technically).

I think that is good syntax.
