Paginate notifications page

Title:
Paginate notifications page

Area:
notifications

Summary:
Split the notifications page if you have a lot of active subscriptions.

Description:
If you have a lot of notifications, the page (http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/?cat=notifications) gets long and takes a while to load, sometimes causing problems. This should be paginated sensibly, so that if you have more than a few hundred notifications, it splits into several pages. Maybe 250 notifications per page?

I don't have that many notifications at the moment but I would find it more helpful to have them split into categories than separated into pages. I don't thing having multiple pages would make it any less overwhelming.

Some potential categories:
Notifications about birthdays
Community notifications
Comments on individual posts

Of course, I meant "think" not "thing". *facepalm*

I like this category split best-first, though I also think if the numbers for an individual category get really high, pagination within a category might still be an option worth consideration.

I'm thinking that I would prefer a) categories and then b) the ability to expand/collapse categories. Again, my numbers aren't that high so I can't speculate whether pagination would be useful in combination with categories that I could expand and collapse.

I'd like to see categories; within categories, I could take or leave pagination (since I doubt I'd ever see it).

Almost all my notifications are for comments on posts or threads I track. So for me categories wouldn't make any difference.

Voted with changes:

First divided into categories:
Comm notifications
Individual Post Comments
Birthdays

Within these categories, display unread expanded and read collapsed
If the # of display unread expanded > than the # items in reading list, then paginate.
