Increase number of notifications allowed for premium paid accounts

Title:
Increase number of notifications allowed for premium paid accounts

Area:
notifications, paid accounts

Summary:
Increase the limit of notification subscriptions for Premium Paid accounts.

Description:
The limit for premium paid accounts is currently 1000 active subscriptions. I keep hitting this, and struggling to clear them out, when I would like to know if someone goes back to an old discussion and comments on it, so want to keep those subscriptions. I know it puts strain on the server, but would it be manageable to increase it to 1500 or 2000 for Premium Paid accounts?

The current limits are:

25 / 500 / 1000

Maybe all of them can be increased a bit?

Either this, as-is, or if server strain is a concern, perhaps it could be sold as an add-on package for paid and premium paid accounts (double your notifications from whatever your current baseline is for $x per month)?

With the new microcredits system, I can see each additional feed being one or two credits per. That's reasonable, I think.

+1 I would completely pay for that.

I think this would be nice for people with just a handful over the current limits.

I think some folks would probably like to buy an add-on package if they have a ton of stuff to follow though.

This seems like the best solution.

I know that there is a problem at LiveJournal where if a user subscribes to a lot of threads (near the 1000 mark) that their notifications page doesn't always load. And sometimes even if someone clears out a hundred inactive subscriptions, they still can't load that page. I'm not sure what percentage of users who *could* be affected *are* affected, but I do know that there are tools to clear out users inactive subscriptions, as well as all of their subscriptions, for exactly this reason. It seems like it's related to site load, but I get the idea that it's not entirely so.

So, I'm not against the numbers being increased, but I think it needs to be done carefully, possibly with (properly) paginating the subscriptions page first.
