Avoid reading page spam when creating feeds
Title:
Avoid reading page spam when creating feeds
Area:
feeds
Summary:
When you first create a feed account, the system reads all the entries from the RSS/Atom feed and vomits them up over your reading page. This is annoying and shouldn't happen.
Description:
The first time that a feed gets read and the feed account gets populated should be special-cased so that you don't end up having your reading page spammed when you create a feed. I'd suggest that the simplest way of doing this would be to have all but the three most recent entries marked with the date out of order/don't show on reading pages option. That way the entries would still be there so they wouldn't be picked up subsequently, but they wouldn't be spammy and annoying.
This suggestion:
Should be implemented as-is.

on the other and, the spam as it's catching up is annoying.
So, I'm ambivalent. But certainly having it when a feed is created would be good.

My understanding is this is just for feed creation, not when one fails to read and then recovers, or if a feed actually posts 10 posts in an hour or something. As long as that's accurate - it's just for creation time - I would REALLY like to have this.

Another commenter objects that this makes the decision for everyone, but for heaven's sake, it's eeeeeeasy to just go to wherever the actual site is and read back--which I think you have to do anyway if you want to get more than the most recent however-long the syndication thing goes back.
Why yes, I did just create a feed and get spammed and become annoyed by it for the I don't know how manyth time...
