Add a meta tag feed to the "latest things" page

Title:
Add a meta tag feed to the "latest things" page

Area:
tags, latest things feed

Summary:
The Latest Things page (http://www.dreamwidth.org/latest) could include a tag feed to journal entries tagged "meta".

Description:
There's a lot of interesting content being posted about fandom which only gets linked to by specific fandom newsletters, or only is read by users who subscribe to the author's journal, but which would be of general interest to all fans.

Opt out suggestion: I think that a "meta" tag feed on the Latest Things page would help maintain and build discussions and content here on dreamwidth, and not just on the mirror journals the meta may be cross-posted to.

Possible drawbacks: Not all users would know to apply the meta tag if they wanted to be in the feed.

Not all users who use that tag might want to be in the feed.

If you would like for the "meta" tag feed to be implemented, which tags should be considered synonyms of the "meta" tag? I've seen "meta", "fandom" and "fandom: meta" commonly used.

Please consider "Should be implemented as-is" a vote for this first, opt out suggestion.

Alternate, opt in suggestion: A tag feed of journal entries tagged "meta feed".

A tag like that is unlikely to be applied by anyone who has not heard of the tag feed and wishes to be on it.

Drawback: People would need to be told about it for it to work.

(Edited to fix formattting fail, sorry about that.)

I've been using "meta" for years to tag posts that are about the site itself, (LJ and now DW), how I feel about journaling, or the mechanics of posting (e.g., the Semagic client, inability to reach the site), and I'm not the only one using it for that or something in that area.

That's not a vote against, and I can't see any way to change this and make it more useful than just "meta." And I don't mind if people in general see my occasional posts about, say, how LJ and DW compare. (I lock posts I don't want seen.)

This. I would strongly expect false positives; meta may be used in a number of contexts that don't include fandom. I think some roleplaying journals use it to denote discussion of the game rather than participation in, for example.

"Meta fandom" might be a better tag to accomplish this.

This. I'm not fandom, but I use meta all the time... "meta feed" is okay, if kinda clunky, but meta by itself I fear will lead to disaster.

This. And it's why I voted "no" -- I quite like fandom meta, but it's a small fraction of how I think of the word. The suggestion asks for fandom meta to be the official meta (or for non-fan meta to be collected into a fandom bucket, very likely without the meta-ers' knowledge or desire if they don't follow fandom debates, and presumably not really meeting the the needs of readers who want more fan meta.)

Plus, DW isn't a fandom site, as much as fandom is loved and welcomed here.

I would like to see meta-tagged posts like yours, as well as fandom meta. So that's more feature than bug for me.

The only stuff I would consider to be false positives are the out-of-character rpg posts which [personal profile] kyrielle mentioned.
