Favorite Tags in Tag Module

Title:
Favorite Tags in Tag Module

Area:
tags

Summary:
Giving users the possibility to display favorite tags in the tag module in the same way that they can display the most popular tags.

Description:
Currently, the tag module can display all of your tags or the n-th more popular tags, where you set n.

My issue with the "most popular tags" is they they don't necessarily reflect the current state of my journal.

Let's say that I used to write a lot of fanfiction about Show#1, but it doesn't interest me anymore, however, I am moving in the fandom for Show#2 and starting to write stories.
I might want the tags for these new stories to show up, and the tags for the stories on Show#1 to not display.

So what I'd like is the possibility for the user to chose to display the tags they want to display by picking them out.

I'd prefer if the user can't choose _not_ to display tags, because I think it's counter-intuitive. If I find an author whose work I like, I'm probably going to look back through their old fic tags and read any of their fic I can find if it's in fandoms I follow, and losing the tags that enable me to do that is problematic.

I tend to use style=mine to find tagclouds and similar for that sort of thing, even though going to the tags page would probably be better.

But agree that if a tag is public it should always be viewable on the tags page and not hideable--what's on the tags module is different though, and I'd like a bit more control, many people use tags as both categories and tags, and a way of managing this would be useful.

Just for clarification: Do you want this to be a new module or another function to choose for the already existing tags module?

I like this idea, but:

If you have your favourite tags enabled, and I have mine set to show all tags, if I view your journal in my style, I expect to see all of your tags, because that's my method of navigation.

Sorry, I was partly talking in a "to remind the person who programs this" (because I'm a big believer in stating the obvious; it helps me when programming/organizing) and partly to mention the corollary to that (and then forgot my point), which is was to brainstorm on what should you see if you're viewing my journal in your style and I haven't selected favourite tags? Do you see no tags? My most used? All of them? That direction is a little harder to automate.

I'd use this - there are tags I use frequently, and there are tags I would like to spotlight in my sidebar, and there is not a perfect overlap.
