Don't show entry on first page if it matches the displayed sticky entry

Title:
Don't show entry on first page if it matches the displayed sticky entry

Area:
entries

Summary:
Right now, we can get entry duplication, when we have set a recently posted entry acting to be a sticky entry. I'd like to have the entry show up on the page only once.

Description:
The nonsticky version of the entry should be hidden from the front page of your journal if you've stickied a newly posted entry. That is, if you can see the sticky entry (starred) at the top of the page, you shouldn't see a non-sticky version of the entry (unstarred) below.

The nonsticky version of the entry should otherwise be part of the normal flow. That is, if you stickied an older entry (one which is not among your first 20 entries), and then go back in your journal and run across that entry again, it should show up in the proper date order.

Against because... I just want it to show up in the order it was posted in. Also because I would be very confused going to someone's journal scrolling down and searching in the area where an entry should be and not finding it because it was already displayed. And yes, that's me being stupid and I could then use Day/Month view or just look on top, but I am okay with being stupid on that one :)

I had this same problem. It would be nice if it was fixed, as suggested. Instead, I found a simple work-around. I backdated the sticky entry (to the date of my journal creation).

Thing is... it's there to be a sticky entry. I don't really need it anywhere else. Personally, I wouldn't mind if the sticky entry didn't show up at all in its nonsticky form.

Yeah, this. I had actually expected the sticky entry to only show up at the top of the first page, and was quite surprised when I wound up with two copies of it.

On the other hand, I want it to show up on day/months/year views and on reading pages etc.

I'd like it to show up on day/month/year and reading pages, but not twice on recent entries.

Seems like using the backdating trick (rather than the old forwarddating trick) would solve this pretty neatly. Maybe a FAQ entry is sufficient here?

What I want to know is why there has to be a non-sticky version of the post at all. I don't want that post to be duplicated. I don't care whether or not it shows up on reading pages. All I want is one (one!) entry at the top of the journal page. I would like an option not to have non-sticky version of the post.

Also, if I want to go back and alter the entry later, which one do I change as it stands now? Do I edit the sticky post, or the original? Because my sticky (which used to be future-dated) is my fic index, which needs to get updated every time I post a new story.

The post itself is not duplicated, just the display. So if you follow either edit link, it will go to the same place, and the edit will show whenever it displays.

Okay. Thanks!
