Keyword Search of Icon Descriptions When Posting

Title:
Keyword Search of Icon Descriptions When Posting

Area:
posting

Summary:
With 250 icons to choose from, it can take a really long time to scroll through them when choosing one for posting or comments. I know they're organized alphabetically by title. Could we have them keyword-searchable?

Description:
When I make an entry or a post, I choose the icon to go with it, and currently the reply frame is set up so "Icon To Use" gives you a dropdown menu showing all your icons alphabetized by the name you've given them. But with 250 icons, that's still a lot of icons to search through, and I wondered if it would be possible to augment this with a Search Keyword option. What this would do would be search through your icon titles based on the keyword you typed in and present the results to you in the dropdown menu after which you could make your selection.

Assuming you put in a unique keyword in the search box, you could just pop up the exact icon you were looking for, and if you didn't, you could at least narrow the selection of icons you had to look through to choose the one you want.

I see this as a Paid/Premium feature, both since it would be widget-intensive, and because that's the account level with 250 icons.

Something similar is on the page: is "view thumbnails" what you have in mind? (It is only enabled for paid users).

If you click on "view thumbnails" – or "browse", as I've got right here – it pops up a screen with the graphic version, but above that is a search bar. If you start typing a word that is anywhere in the keywords or comments on any icon, the display will be narrowed to only those icons, which sounds – to me – like what you're looking for here.

Does this help?

I think it searches the keyword (used to select the userpic) and comment (usually used for attribution), but not the description (for alt text / the icon in words). So it would be cool if we could add the last one.

(Am I still thinking of the wrong thing?)

Is this really needed? In Fx, when I've selected the dropdown, I can start typing the keyword and it'll take me to that part of the list--I thought that was standard web browser UI.

I would think that would only work if the keyword was the starting one. So in [personal profile] ivorygates's example above, she might have her icon keywords set as "Stargate: Teal'c" and "Stargate: Pink O'Neill" (I don't even know I'm making this up), where typing "Pink" would not take her to the relevant Stargate icons.

Nope, it finds the word "pink" even if it's in the middle of the keyword. However, it doesn't search either the description or the comment, so probably that should be improved.

ETA: Oops. Just double-checked. It searches the comment (usually used for attribution, but doesn't show / search the description. So that should that probabyl should be aded as well!
