So far the only option to import from another service is to import all journal entries.
I think a good other option would be to import entries by tag - so you could import all entires that contain fic, recipes or knitting paterns, but leave out year old posts about everyday chatter and events long past.

Another selected import option could be to only import entries on a matter of privacy celection (public posts only or private posts only)

I would *love* this. I would also love, in addition, to be able to exclude entries with a certain tag.

So seconded. I was just looking to see if there was a way to do this, since i've got about 20 or so entries between certain dates i want imported, and not the other thousand or so. Import by tag and/or date would be awesome. Any news on whether this is being considered at all?

Nobody's picked it up yet; the importer is a big system, and people tend to be intimidated by it (and those who aren't are rather busy!) But we'll see. It might turn out to be impossible, based on the data we get from the other sites, without a lot of work on our end, in which case it'll take longer, but we'll have to wait until someone starts digging into it to see.

Import by date all the way. Only from a certain month, for example. Combined with this it would be just about perfect.

Way, way late to the party, but since I was just about to suggest this when I looked through the existing tags to be sure and spotted this - I'm +1-in the hell out of this, along with the above suggestion to be able to exclude tags.

With community imports now available, people looking to back up fic/rp from large comms, being able to designate JUST the tags with their author tag, or character tags or whatnot would be insanely useful.
