Merge full FAQ search form into FAQ list

Title:
Merge full FAQ search form into FAQ list

Area:
User documentation

Summary:
Add a language field to http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faq (like http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqsearch has) and redirect http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqsearch into http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faq.

Description:
There's no real reason to have a separate search form since there's ample space for the one missing field (FAQ language), and the complete form isn't linked from the simplified one, meaning the only way to find it is through the sitemap. Then, the site map should be updated to merge the 2 items, and likewise for any applicable menus. (I can't use them because they don't work for me, so I don't know what's in them.)

Alternatively, there should be a link to the complete search form from the FAQ list (but since thw in-index search was added to avoid that, that's a markedly poorer solution.)

Wasn't there a similar bug months ago?

"With changes" because, IIRC, official Dreamwidth pages are only in English and will only ever be in English, so why do we have the language field at all? Seems like another LJ holdover that should just be rooted out; the two pages are just redundant.

(Of course, if I'm wrong about the DW FAQ being English-only, then I vote for the suggestion as originally posted.)

The FAQ on the DW site is English only and AFAIK intended to stay that way as we're not planning to offer translations or similar.

However, the DW project is used by others installed on their servers, and they might find it useful.

That's not a vote for keeping it, but depending on how it works ripping it out may be unnecessary work that hurts other installs.

(ages ago, I planned to work with some others to setup a UK/EU install of DW but that never got started due to a variety of factors, and an EU install would need some form of language system)

Oh, very cool! In that case, I definitely think the best option is to merge the pages as in the original suggestion, and to display the language dropdown only if it's relevant, as you say.

rejecting because that's the page you get directed onto after you perform a search, too, and is where the results are displayed. so, there's reason to have it!

(if you want to open a bug for the "hide the language field" part of it, just go ahead and do that part, no need for a separate suggestion!)
