Summary:
Adding an option under Customization > Additional options that enables a user to place tags before entries instead of having them appear after entries, as is currently the case.

Description:
There's already an option under Customization > Additional options that enables a user to move metadata before entry text, and I believe having the same option for tags would be useful in many cases.

For example, people could tag their posts discussing sensitive issues with general or trigger specific warning tags, making those warnings easy to spot at the top of the post. Readers could then decide to continue reading that post, search for all posts containing those warnings, or skip the post entirely. (Fan)writers could tag their fiction as original or fan fiction, then tagging it further according to fandom, pairing, genre, etc., making it easy to see and search according to the reader's preferences. The same could apply to (fan)artists and the various arts they post on Dreamwidth.

I don't foresee any problems and drawbacks to this suggestion, and I don't have any knowledge of S2 or other languages to be able to suggest any other ways to accomplish this move.

+ Voting that if both are enabled, tags go before metadata. (I don't think adding yet another option letting you choose what goes first is a good idea).

(Though...on the page I'm looking at the tags are at the top...but I assume that's not the case in all styles.)

If you were looking at my page, you were probably seeing me fiddling with theme layers. I haven't been able to achieve the effect through css, which is why I submitted this request.

Would it be straightforward to use CSS (in the custom CSS box) to undo that, for people who'd prefer not to have them together? If it wouldn't, I think the added option would be better.

It would just be a simple option under Customization to choose whether you want metadata before or after text (which already exists) and whether you want tags to go together with metadata. There would be no need to turn off the option via css.

I misread ninetydegrees's comment as "the option should be to have both at the top, or both at the bottom," which seemed like a reasonable idea (since it's always better to have fewer options) but neither option would work for me. But, because reducing the number of options is good, I'd be content with that being the option as long as CSS could be used to make it not work that way.

Actually, it might be most-straightforward for that option to have four choices - "metadata and tags together at the top, metadata and tags together at the bottom, metadata at the top and tags at the bottom, metadata at the bottom and tags at the top". That way it wouldn't add an option.

Yes, basically what I was thinking was keeping the Place of metadata in entries option the way it is (it now has the "Before entry text/After entry text" dropdown), and adding the same choice for tags, so

Place of tags in entries --> "Before entry text/After entry text" dropdown.

Users could choose both to be Before or After, or one of them to be Before and the other After.

Or however this could be done to be clearest to users.

I agree. I would be happy to see it either way - either before or after metadata - whichever option works better.
