Extend search to allow you to search your own journal for comments by a particular user

Title:
Extend search to allow you to search your own journal for comments by a particular user

Area:
search

Summary:
Extend search to allow you to search your own journal for comments by a particular user.

Description:
I'd recommend making this a tick-box or something similar, so that you can still search for entries in which you mention a user without the results getting flooded with everywhere they've commented.

This might also be useful for communities, though there may be privacy concerns around the communities part.

I'm all for implementing this for your own journal but I'm undecided about communities.

I actually really like it for communities, as long as we respect privacy levels. I'm thinking particularly of storyfinder comms, or pornbattles, or times the community is posting large amounts of graphics in the comments. There are plenty of times when the content is in the comments, rather than the entries.

Can you talk some more about the negative privacy implications, I'm just not seeing it.

Yeah, those are all instances when being able to search for a particular user would be beneficial but I can also imagine instances when it wouldn't, that's why I don't know what I think about implementing it for comms.

I'm not being disingenuous. I really can't think of scenarios where searching comments by user prevents a privacy concern. Can you outline some?

Well, I probably have a far too lively imagination but I can definitely imagine people using it trying to dig up any possibly incriminating stuff the original commenter said years ago in the hope of using it in a current fight.

Ah. I ... can see where that might happen, but I wouldn't see it as a privacy concern, so much as … people reacting to things one has said that they have the current permission level to see.

Like, I can understand where it might be discomfiting, but it doesn't strike me as a problem.
