Anti-Cut Tag: Like cut text, but moreso

Title:
Anti-Cut Tag: Like cut text, but moreso

Area:
entries, cut tag

Summary:
A new tag, that would go outside the <cut></cut> tag, containing content that will only display when the post is cut (ie, that won't appear in the full entry).

Description:
Here's one use case: When you put a bandwidth-friendly thumbnail above the cut right now, on the full entry that thumbnail will still appear even though most of the time (not always), it'd be redundant. An anti-cut tag that can hide preview-only stuff like that at the poster's discretion would be useful.

The <cut text=""> field can already do this for one line of text with no formatting and no linebreaks, so this'd be a big expansion of that, without forcing the content to be a hyperlink.

Can we expand the text attribute to take things that aren't plaintext? I guess it'd need entities escaping.

How about integrating with the cut tag somehow, rather than having a separate tag.

+1; I wouldn't want a whole separate tag to wrassle.

If someone directs me to an entry, I expect to see its full content so no, please.

+1. Missing out on the text in the cut tag is already annoying.

+1 Annoying, very much so.

Oh yes! I wish there were some way that you could make showing the cut tag text on the entry itself automatic because far too many people forget to include it manually.

I'd forgotten about that suggestion and the problems with backwards compatibility. I whish it was possible though. Every time I try to read an entry rendered partly incomprehensible because the poster put important stuff in the cut text and forgot to add it to the entry itself, I gnash my teeth with irritation.

I would really like the show=true option to be implemented, but I'm guessing that was included in the "with changes" that was rejected.

(I'm still not 100% on the new suggestions system, though, so if anyone can tell me differently, I will resubmit.)

I'm not 100% either but I think that the reject tag wouldn't be there if any part of the suggestion had been accepted.

Yeah, probably. There's a bugzilla: partially migrated tag, presumably for cases where part of the suggestion is rejected but part is put into bugzilla.

I hadn't noticed that tag before, thank you for telling me! I must remember it in the future. (Yeah, I used to browse through the LJ suggestions comm occasionally to see which suggestions, if any, had been accepted and I do that on DW too. It's more fun here though :-)
