Erm, sorry, I didn't phrase quite so well. I meant that "sponsor a user" does imply a possibly deserving user -- like "be a patron of the arts" implies that these arts are worthwhile and thus should be patronized. "Random user," on the other hand, makes me want to scoff, like some part of me is thinking, "oh, random guy, so what did random guy do to deserve this random benevolence?" Which is cynical, I admit, but this isn't an economy that lends itself to rosy glasses, and many (most?) of us are watching the coins closely -- hence the importance of finding a way to emphasize that the benefit (to the community of keeping this person around) is worth the loss of the extra coinage in our own pockets.
