Tag bug.

Title:
Tag bug.

Area:
site tags and cross posting

Summary:
If a message is composed in Rich Text mode, and the <user name="xxxxx" site="livejournal.com"> tag is used, Rich Text mode seems to decide that those are literal, and not interpretive, characters...so what you get instead of a neat little user icon is the full text of each tag embedded in both the original and the (LJ) crossposted message.

Description:
Change the Rich Text mode editor to accept the <user name="xxx" site="livejournal.com"> tags, and/or provide a button for it that will insert something that the Rich Text parser will recognize as a tag, and not a literal.

Poll #8383 Tag bug.

Aren't we switching to something that is not RTE or did I just dream that? (And hope and pray on my knees for that.)

I think this is going to be fixed in the next iteration of the Update Page, but someone might want to ask [personal profile] fu.

I think, if we stick to the current RTE (may it die horribly), that we should have a button instead. The RTE's whole point (other than to mess up your entry) is to remove all HTML from the update page altogether. It's not supposed to parse the angle brackets at all. I think what you're seeing (the full <user name=something site=example.com> displayed when you type your code in the RTE) is intentional behaviour; what's not right is that there's no way to create the 'other site icon' thing in the RTE.
