Daily report on comments

Title:
Daily report on comments

Area:
entries

Summary:
_Sometimes_, rather than being told whenever there was a comment on a post I'm watching, I'd rather get an email once a day saying "There were 3 new comments today - here are the links to them."

Description:
Some posts I want to keep up with everything that's going on as it happens. Others I just want to be notified if anyone ever comments on it - but I don't need to deal with it at once.

Having a batch report of all the posts I'm watching that have received comments would be a very handy way to do the latter.

I'd like to be able to select which option when I opt in to notifications.

I'd be much more likely to use notifications for comment threads in other peoples' journals if I had the option to get them in digest form rather than one email per comment.

I'd want to make sure I could continue to get comments on other posts - or at least on my posts - one by one, though.

I like this idea, but admit I find the idea of implementing it tricky.

Yeah, I am not quite sure whether the ESN system can do that without major re-writing.

Agreed. Trying to think of how it could be done (independent of knowing the LJ core, just in general) and man, I think it'd be a twister on the code. I can think of a few ways but they're all pretty nightmarish, and that's not even getting into the nightly cron job when all those daily digests get compiled and sent all at once (let alone any potential drag on the servers as it does so).

Well, batching them by server (for LJ) or usernumber (or whatever) for DW would take down the load problem somewhat. But yes, definitely a difficult task. Really useful, though...
