Beta Features: add to Account Settings

Title:
Beta Features: add to Account Settings

Area:
usability

Summary:
Add a new category to http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/ so you know if you have beta testing turned on or off, with a link to http://www.dreamwidth.org/betafeatures to let you easily change your setting.

Description:
Something like:

Beta Testing -- Activated/Deactivated -- Change

A reminder in the navigation header if you have beta features turned on might be useful too.

Edit: see the first comment for an alternative implementation with a new 'Beta' tab in http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/.

I don't know about having it on settings, because that would add unnecessary clutter to something most people wouldn't use, but it would be nice to have a big (BETA!) in the tab, so you know you're on beta testing.

For me, this is one of those "I don't care but I think it should be linked somewhere" things. But I only have one account. I should imagine for those wiht multiple accounts, including test accounts, remembering which ones are set for what will be more annoying.

Ergo a link somewhere should definitely be created, and settings is probably the best place. Or even the sitescheme at the top, a beta logo if you're using it?

I agree; having a linked beta logo in the site header and navigation strip would work better to remind me whether it were on or not, and make it quicker to switch back and forth to compare before and after. Although for preference, there should be an on/off toggle with the logo.

Now if beta were not a simple on/off thing, then it would make more sense to have a beta tab in settings where you could check off which individual beta items you were using, but I think there would still need to be that beta reminder in the site header and navstrip.

This. And if beta becomes a less-simple thing, the site header/navstrip could simply lead to the beta settings page / beta tab, also.
