On http://www.dreamwidth.org/poll/create , you can specify questions and answers for polls. While questions can have 1,000 characters, it is often very inconvenient to make them more than a sentence, because you can't have breaks or use HTML and it gets cluttered very easily.

I have had the experience that putting more explanations in the journal entry itself is also not that easy, as by the time a person gets to question #10, they probably don't completely remember something that was explained in the beginning.

I propose a "Notes" box into which the user can type explanatory text that is then displayed below the question and above the responses. This text could support at least some HTML markup for emphasis etc.
