EXCEPT when tagged

Title:
EXCEPT when tagged

Area:
Notifications/Message Settings

Summary:
It would be nice to be able to have all the posts of my friend sent to my inbox.... EXCEPT those darn Twitter imports.

Description:
I prefer the 'neatness' of the inbox to scrolling thru page after page of the reading page. I've found it much more efficient less time consuming. With the inbox I can quickly delete the entries I'm either not interested in or am done with.

What I can't stand is getting spammed, either in my inbox or on my reading page, by Twitter imports! I can't avoid them on my reading page. And if I track a friend's every post they end up in my inbox. The only way to keep them out of my inbox is to either stop tracking my friend completely - which means I miss out on all their other posts. Or to set up to track each of their other tags - which is impractical in the extreme.

I'd like to be able to check the box that notifies me whenever someone makes a new post and addition, BLOCKS that notification if it's marked with one of the tags in the drop down menu already available in the first option "posts a new entry tagged". That way I can get all of my friend's posts in my inbox EXCEPT the ones I don't want to see (like those darn Twitter imports).

That would make a nice paid feature. I use the filter by tag for my reading page, and I can imagine how useful it would be to be able to filter tracking the same way.

Agreed. I've wanted negative filtering for an age (and used to want it on LJ, where I wanted to filter negatively by friends group).

Yes you can, add some custom CSS to make them not display, easy. Check my Dreamwidth Layout tag for the code.

Filter by tag (a paid feature) will allow you to do this for your reading page, or you can hide them using custom CSS if you have a free account.

What is it about the 'neatness' of the inbox that you like? Ideally there should be journal layouts available so you can make your reading page look similarly neat.

Ah, fair enough. There were various hacky things working towards that for the reading page, like Greasemonkey scripts, but it's not ideal yet.

I like it, and the functionality should apply wider than that. It would be very nice to effectively set up some reading "filters" as a kind of tag search.
