adding to circle ought to default to an add
[Suggestion made by OpenID user, reposted by moi.]
Summary:
"add to circle" ought to default to both "grand access" and "subscribe" checked, then let me uncheck one if i wish.
Description:
when i click add to circle, no boxes are checked by default. perhaps the most compelling argument can be made for having both checked by default (both grant access and subscribe). but at least one ought to be checked by defualt. lest why did i click "add to circule"?

If it can make the life of a new user better, without hurting existing users or site performance, something is usually worth doing. You went to the FAQs, most users won't do that, they'll just give up.
And that's a Bad Thing. So I guess the real question is are you a typical or atypical new user who's not come here from LJ, and how important is it that we make things for the next "you" easier. Which is probably a discussion for a different thread at some point in the future.
Seriously "I've only been here three days" is the best reason to be pointing out problems you're finding, ideally there wouldn't be any at all, but if you do find an ideal website that's actually worth using, I'll be impressed ;-)
So thank you, because most people never bother pointing out where they find problems. Many don't even know they've found a problem, because they didn't know a feature was there, at all. Someone telling us there's an issue? That's good.

Yeah. And I suppose there is a tradeoff between simplifying for new users on one hand, and not changing well known things around for those who are already here on the other – and I would likely err on the side of not upsetting people myself. So therefore, me mentioning "only three days".
I just have to mention how amazing it is to see someone actually taking an interest in suggestions and comments. This is probably the most welcoming welcome I've had anywhere. (I knew it! It is a cult!)

But yes -- the LJ code we forked from was not always the most usable stuff, since it was designed with the power user in mind, and since usability and accessibility is so important to us, it's something I really want to fix over time. So, keep notes as you explore! We want to hear about it!
