Previews for non-dreamwidth commenters

[This suggestion was made an OpenID user, and the posting process failed because OpenID accounts can't post to communities; the suggestion was good enough that I just sent it straight to Bugzilla, but I wanted to record it here for posterity and so that my numbers can match up.]

Summary:

If HTML links will be disabled, can comment previews show this?

Description:

Comments by open-ID or anonymous users do not permit HTML links or images (or maybe that's just an option on the journals I've commented on). Can the preview option be changed to detect open-ID or anonymous comments and show them as they will be rendered with the links disabled?

I don't know if this is also in the bugzilla bug, but a label above the posting box might save people time and annoyance before they even get to the preview stage.

I think this is a very good idea.

I can't remember what the rules are for who can post links/images, but if registered OpenID users are allowed, one could even have a note saying "if you'd like to be able to post links, you can register *here*".

I've been planning to hack a bit into the comment box for that sort of purpose anyway, that it's not an S2 function makes it harder (one new language at a time makes sense).

I get a lot of non-DW non-LJ comments, and would like to make it easy for them to contribute. "You're not logged in" and "you can use this code" would be very helpful.

My memory is faulty; are validated OpenID users allowed to post links in comments now? If not, why not?

+1 for both of those ideas

The less mysterious, the better!
