Summary:
The links at the bottom of an email to a specific entry should include the name of the entry where appropriate.

Description:
When I receive an "X has posted a new entry email", the link to the entry is at the bottom of the email. If X has posted multiple entries, some email clients/systems^[1] will truncate duplicated content thinking that it's duplicated.

This is especially annoying if using the HTML view of Gmail on a mobile device, where clicking the 'read more' link will reload the thread, marking all unread as read.

If the "view this entry" text was replaced by "view entry TITLE", this would cease to happen.

Alternatively, if the title of the entry at the top of the notification was also a link, this would also solve the specific gmail problem.

(I and Miss_S_B subscribe to each other, and tend to work different shifts, we have metered bandwidth on our mobiles, and while neither of us gets close, extra pageloads for no reason is annoying, this is a specific gmail issue, but it may apply to other clients)

This would need a sensible fall-back if the entry has no title. If it has tags, "view this entry tagged 'blah'" would work.

True; as I rarely subscribe to people that don't us titles, it didn't actually occur to me, everything Jennie posts has a title unless she forgets.

(dogmatic me would've said "well, it'll encourage more page titling", but I've grown...)

Maybe 'view this untitled entry'?

That might as well be left as "View this entry", though, since it's still the same in every case, which is the problem we were trying to solve.

or even view entry #123456, in the same way comment notifications work, using the url number. Consistent with other usage and solves problem.

Might be worth mentioning to Google too, since this is arguably their bug.

Also the same with the conversation view in Outlook 2010.

I think it's been reported to them before, pretty sure I've seen it reported as such on LJ conversations (where the same problem applies).

IIRC, and I may be wrong, Google's reply was along the lines of "feature, not bug". Given it also happens in Outlook, and possibly other 'conversation view' clients, it's something we need to solve here for all clients, and it shouldn't be a major bit of code.
