You also don't get an e-mail notification if you buy services for other people, but not yourself -- it'd be nice to get that fixed too.

I recently got a pm about a points transfer someone though they'd made to me, only it hadn't gotten through. Confirmation emails sound like a good idea.

Hmm. I don't think this has been reported. I couldn't find it in Bugzilla.

Huh. It's especially problematic because the post-payment screen says you'll get a confirmation e-mail, which then doesn't arrive.

I'm not sure I'd want email confirmation, though I suppose it wouldn't hurt and could be handy on occasion. What I'd rather have is a points transfer history similar to the payment history. So you can just click a link in the shop and see where points have come from and where they've gone.
