I'm also in strong support of being able to activate notifications of comments via e-mail without having them sent to my on-site inbox, if something like that is possible. Having all notifications sent to my regular e-mail client (into which I am pretty much constantly signed in) works really well for me, while I prefer to keep my on-site inbox clear of the "minor" stuff so that I don't risk missing private messages and other specific things. This is the system that I find works best for me in my use of livejournal and insanejournal, and I would definitely appreciate being able to set my system here up this way. As it is, unless there's something I'm missing, the only way for me to receive e-mail notifications is to enable notifications for both.
